Summer has begun!

It's here! It's official! In my bubble anyway..... Summer has arrived!

FINALLY!

Look what our family has been doing!

It is growing like a weed,

oh wait that might just be a weed!

bunching onions, and swiss chard.....

As soon as we purchase Compost Worms

we will officially be "Worm Ranchers"

We told Jordan she gets to name our new pets!

Yummy! broccoli, onions, carrots, beets, cucumbers, I can't wait!

We have been so busy with this project this spring! I think I have finally gone over the excersize curve. Two weeks ago every muscle I formerly owned in life was SCREAMING BLOODY MURDER.....

Today I can report I feel great and the pains are just minor annoyances, it pays to stay in shape! You would think that I would remember this during the winter when I turn into a bear and hibernate...... next year.... gosh I hope you will all remind me of this brilliant piece of information!

Now on to the important business of Crochet!

Look at this wonderful piece of ART!

This is an afghan made by one of our members for her relatives in Poland. As the story goes she was doing some geneology a few years ago that ended with her and her husband showing up at a small house in the countryside of Poland announcing that they were "family"!

They were welcomed with open arms and she came home with this vision. Rows of crops, bright red poppies, strawberries, flowers, a community church, and her cousins house all made it into her view of her trip to Poland. This will be boxed up and sent to her realtives very soon preceeding her return visit this July. I am sure her family will be astounded with her creativity and love her even more that they did before! Great Job Patty! I am so proud of you!

Speaking of Freeform ( yes the afghan is freeform just an idea that turned into a something, amazing huh? ) Our current project for "Freeform Scrumble Monday" is what we are calling "Purple Haze" we are working in all that is purple! Please come and join us if you can.....

This once a month activity is a wonderful chance to share and learn with other crocheters. Generally the way we conduct this activity is that we have everyone begin to crochet, every 15 minutes you hand the piece you are working on to the person next to you for them to work on for 15 minutes, and so on. At the end of the evening you take with you the piece you began and it is simply amazing how beautiful the pieces have become! Mine is going to be a pillow top......... for someone who loves purple!

Our busy little group is still meeting every week on Wednesday as usual, we are also going once a month to the Silverdale Farmers Market, on the FOURTH Tuesday ( April - September), from 11:00 to 4:00 we will have a tent and chairs, so please come and sit for a minute and see what your group has been up to!

Hello cro-people!

It has been awhile since I posted here. We have been busy little bumblebees here in our cro-corner of the world! This was our work on the Earth portion of our current Earth, Air, Water, Fire theme that we have been working on for the last several months.



Last month when we met at the "Clear Creek Community Club" for our monthly (3rd Monday every month), Freeform Scrumble Monday. Look what found it's way to us!!!! One of our stalkers, I have to call her a stalker because she has yet to "join" our group however, we should make her an honorary member just because she gives us so much fun with her scraps! Thanks for the scraps Karen, only a freeformer would understand this tangled up mess that you delivered to us last month! Take a look......






This upcoming monday ( March 16th 5-9pm $5, potluck) is our next Freeform Scrumble Monday. Please come and share in this fun time that we set aside to immerse ourselves in a freeform train of thought! This month we are starting on the "Air"


Bring a collection of yarns that make you think "Air" or just come and work on a project of your own.

Go check out the Kitsap Regional Library in Bremerton Washington through the month of March! ( Sylvan Way branch) We have set up both display cases with a variety of crocheted wonders! Here is a photo album in case you can't get there to see for yourself!

Freeform Scrumble Monday!

Are you ready to SCRUMBLE!!!!

This next Monday evening we gather at

We will be working on a Fire, Water, Earth, Air, theme.

This month we will be working in colors that make you think earth.
If you decide to join us and this is your first time just come and see what we do, no need to bring yarn ( unless you want to!), as we always have more than we can crochet! And we like to share! We would love to have you join us!


Here are my personal scrumbles so far for this project, these are Fire and Water I can't wait to get my hook into the earth!

And speaking of freeform I thought this would be a good time to unveil the photo of an afghan that our group made for the Kitsap County Fair last year. This project has become something akin to the travelling pants. We hauled this afghan with us to share with others at the CGOA Convention in Portland Oregon last September.

We asked our community to participate in this project. Initiall we suggested that people just crochet something in colors that remind them of spring. At first the pieces came very slowly and by the time we were ready to begin assembling the pieces were coming to us by the bag full! We used every piece that was given to us making this more like a Spring Wildgarden! So much fun!

It was well received by a number of freeformers and crochet enthusiasts and soon will be on display again in our community at, "The Kitsap Regional Library" on Sylvan Way in Bremerton for the month of March.

Ans since I'm on a roll, I received this photo of a freeform project of mine that I have been showing off for the last year or so. This photo was also taken at the convention in Portland, I just love these colors!

LOOK what I did!!!!

( you can't prove a thing... nobody saw me do it ... he he )

In all seriousness, I think it is high time that the,

" Kitsap Fancy Crocheters Guild " (KFCG),

has a place to post our goings on. I will try to upload photos of current projects and chatter about upcoming ones.

2009 is going to be a wonderful year! I have decided this and therefore it must be so!

1st things first... Did someone say snow?





This is my house and the "Yarn" car. My car and I pretty much hibernated for 15 days. We were going nowhere fast! I'm happy to report most of it has melted already and the yarn car can once again travel to the ends of the earth in search of yarn!

The bright side of the 15 days trapped in the house is that my dh got me this nifty new laptop and I have spent quality time figuring it out. Hence the Blog, something must have sunk in, ya think?


I am going to post a few pictures taken recently of our groups projects:

The first one is an afghan of which our group has made and donated to local families over the last 4 years. We are in the neighborhood of 50 afghans so far. Each one is a beautiful treasure that we made of donated, cast away, once loved, yarn. Yes they are acryllic which is not my personal favorite medium, however, these will wash and look wonderful for years to come. We have developed quite a process of gathering, packaging and distributing yarn in co-ordinating colors, so each afghan has some sence of order and colorway.




Our group has been active for 4 years now. We have grown into a comfy group of crocheters that are busily sharing our love of this silly craft with our local community. Isn't it beautiful! And it warms my heart to warm a heart. In this particular case a heart very dear to our group.


Just a month or so ago, one of our members had some labels made for us, she handed me 500 of them!!!!! They were very small and got lost on the back of a nice sized afghan so I attached the lable and added a hand sewn 2008, on a piece of felt. Each afghan from now on will have a label similar to this. I think this will make each one even more special than before. ( Thanks member who donated these!)

On to a couple of other projects and I'm done for today. Our group collected hats all last year and made a special afghan for our local veterans. We delivered them at Christmas time to a local Veterans home that helps veterans who were previously homeless.





And just yesterday I snapped this photo of Scarves that our group made for the "Special Olympics". Here is a link to the project, ours are all boxed up and will be on the way tomorrow!

And finally a silly story. Last year a lady gave us a bag full of traditional granny squares. All the same color, each one exactly the same. I am sure she thought she was doing us a favor, all we had to do was assemble them! Well, we have a teensie problem with assembly. We have found that some people like to make traditional granny squares, but they don't like to assemble them. The members that do participate in the assembly process usually find the traditional granny very basic and assembly to be quite boring. We take on the job of assembly as our participation in our guild.

Taking this on as a challenge we turned those traditional grannies into a work of art! I've named it....

"Spongebob-Fancypants" !

We in turn took this to the lady's house wrapped in a beautiful ribbon. We left it tucked on a chair on her front porch with a card telling her that she can either keep this for herself, or pass it on to someone in our community. We have not heard a word from her so far, I sure hope she loves it as much as she does crochet!





So there ya go the very first ever KFCG related blog post in the universe!

Oh and BTW I am also cro-person on Ravelry, this is all very new to me, not much there yet but I vow to work on it in 2009!
